Didn’t actually preach the sermon posted. Not that I thought that it was bad. I think it is entirely worth preaching. But I was intent on ‘breaking open the text,’ too familiar to our ears. I urged a pastor friend (who is a woman) to preach this text from the perspective of the Mother. That would open our ears. I preached from the only position I could legitimately take up, the “Angry Brother” and tried to stay in role the entire way. In the end, Marilynne Robinson’s quote was too rich to abandon, so I stole one piece of it. Look for the video to post as soon as I get it.
